Configure a SQL Server Alias for Sharepoint

If you're using SQL Server instances in your SharePoint installation, it's best to use SQL alias.  Using SQL alias aids you when you moving SQL server around for whatever reason.
To create a SQL alias for SharePoint to use, log on to your SharePoint application server.
1. From the Start menu, click Run
2. In the Run line, type cliconfg
3. Click on the Alias tab, and click Add

Enable TCP/IP

Add a new alias as follow.

Once your alias is entered, launch SharePoint Products and technologies wizard and build your SharePoint farm. 
Verify on your SQL server that TCP/IP communication is allowed in the sql server configuration manager.
