Cleanup you SharePoint 2007 migration before you migrate

When you upgrade from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 it’s a good idea to first cleanup you current SharePoint environment. This can avoid a lot of migration issues!
Consider the following points for example:

  1. Remove old and unused features;
  2. Remove old sites and site collections;
  3. Remove locks;
  4. Remove orphaned sites, lists and objects;
  5. Add features that are missing or should be there;
  6. Cleanup legacy upgrade issues and customizations.
You can use some of the following tools to identify migration issues:

Preaupgradecheck (stsadm command)
Enumallwebs (stsadm command)
SPDiag (SharePoint Admin Kit)
Beyound Compare  for directory and file compaire (additional tool)
